Properties of fluids such as compressibility and viscosity. Structure of liquids and gases at the molecular level. Key fluid characteristics, including continuity and the ability to flow. The role of molecular interactions in shaping large-scale (macroscopic) phenomena. Description of natural systems with free water surfaces, including their cross-sectional and longitudinal forms. Basic classifications of channel flows. Analysis of steady and uniform flow in open channels. Effects of boundary friction and channel roughness in rivers. Study of steady but non-uniform flow along with corresponding water surface profiles. Features of compound channels. Special hydraulic situations, including confluences, bifurcations, and engineered structures. Use of numerical methods to simulate free-surface flow behavior.
