Introduction to ecotoxicology; aims and tools, groups of environmental contaminants. Pollutant sources. Gaseous air pollutants: ozone, sulphur dioxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide – deposition impact on vegetation. Bioaccumulation, effects in organisms, populations, ecosystems. Sources of toxic substances in wastewater. Impact of toxic substances in wastewater on treatment processes. Influence of toxic substances in treated wastewater on water environment.

KNOWLEDGE:

EEP_W2 - mechanisms and processes in the environment

EEP_W3 - different kinds of hazards and methods of their identification, reduction or elimination from the environment

EEP_W5 - methods to select the technologies minimizing consequences of anthropopressure in the environment

SKILLS:

EEP_U1 - acquire, verify, evaluate and integrate environmental and geographical data from various sources

EEP_U2 - utilize obtained data for environmental and anthropogenic impact assessments

EEP_U3 - conduct multi-faceted analysis of natural environment conditions and processes

EEP_U10 - chose, plan, prepare and conduct their own experiments to obtain experimental data for the final project
