Definition and research scope of environmental chemistry. A case study of Nyos lake as an example of area of interest for environmental chemistry. The chemical composition of the atmosphere, the processes occurring in the atmosphere. Anthropogenic changes in the chemistry of the troposphere and the stratosphere. The chemical composition of the hydrosphere, chemical characteristics of fresh and oceanic water. Circulation of elements in ocean waters. Estuaries as an example of a specific aquatic environment. The specificity of soil environment - the most important processes characteristic for this component of the environment. Typical disturbances occurring in the lithosphere under anthropogenic pressure. Circulation of elements in the biosphere. Classification of elements. the carbon and nitrogen cycles.

KNOWLEDGE:

EEP_W2 - mechanisms and processes in the environment

EEP_W7 - rules of data processing in the field of environment engineering and protection

EEP_W8 - rules of measurement and interpretation of monitoring data and assessment of the environment

SKILLS:

EEP_U1 - acquire, verify, evaluate and integrate environmental and geographical data from various sources

EEP_U2 - utilize obtained data for environmental and anthropogenic impact assessments

EEP_U7 - present a point of view on the recent advances in development of modern technologies in environmental engineering and protection, based on the knowledge gained from literature, lectures and study visits, being able also to provide scientific, social and ethical arguments

EEP_U10 - chose, plan, prepare and conduct their own experiments to obtain experimental data for the final project

SOCIAL SKILLS:

EEP_K3 - independent or team work to solve the problem

EEP_K4 - indicate the social responsibility for the environment, being aware of the short- and long-term implications of the choice of different engineering solutions

EEP_K5 - set priorities in solving engineering problems in the cooperation with other students

EEP_K6 - think critically and act creatively
