Planning system in Poland (levels: national, regional and local); definition, role and meaning of functional areas; typology of functional areas, metropolitan regions and functional urban areas; criteria for delimitation of functional areas; characteristics of the main problems, development goals and principles of spatial policy of selected functional areas in Poland and Wielkopolska region; selected issues related to functional areas in the European Union; socio-economic and environmental aspects of suburbanization; urbanization in a global context.
