Ecology – definition, background, history. Population - structure, processes, managing populations, species conservation. Community - parameters, biodiversity and its measurement, succession, biotic interactions, managing pests. Ecosystems - trophic levels and food webs, bioaccumulation, energy flow and energy budgets or ecosystems, productivity. Biomes characteristics. Habitat assessment. Field trip - protected areas in Poland. Discussion about environmental threats of protected areas. Identification of endangered species and habitats (Habitat and Birds Directives). Project and presentation about selected protected area.

-EEP_W1 - functioning of biotic and abiotic elements of the environment (air, soil, water, plants and animals)

SKILLS

-EEP_U1 - acquire, verify, evaluate and integrate environmental and geographical data from various sources

-EEP_U9 - prepare the written report or oral presentation based on possessed knowledge and is able to present and defend them during group meetings

-EEP_K4 - indicate the social responsibility for the environment, being aware of the short- and long-term implications of the choice of different engineering solutions
